Local Activities
In and around Durango, Colorado, you'll find many thrilling activities for your family or group vacation. Here are a few we suggest, depending on your season of stay.
Summer Activities
In the middle of the yar, festivals, outdoor music concerts, golf, silverton narrow gauge train to a mining town, mesa verde Indian ruins, Telluride, rent boats and pontooons, picnics, and fishing are a few of the fun activities. Durango also offers rafting trips, melodramas, plays, movie theaters, shops, restaurants and much more for your enjoyment!
Winter Activities
In addition to many of the above activities, winter in Durango offers some of the best in winter sporting. Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory Mountain) has a 10,822 foot summit with 75 runs ranging from beginner to advanced.
The full-service resort facility offers skiing, boarding, tubing, sleigh rides, and star gazing (ride a heated snowcat to the Powderhouse and have a hot chocolate). Snowmobile, snowshoe, cross country, snowcat skiing, and Apres Ski life are within 1 mile.

Bar-D ChuckWagon and Cowboys Singers are only 30 minutes away.
Bucks Livery horseback and dinner rides are only 1 mile away.
Silverton is 30 minutes away. Tour the Silver Queen mine and pan for gold, see the old jailhouse, or take a guided Jeep tour into the high country!
Ouray is 1 hour, 10 minutes away. America's "Little Switzerland" is a must see! Ouray outdoor hot springs are huge pools of natural hot spring water that you can swim in year around. Take a mine tour, pan for gold, and ride the train into the shaft. Also in Ouray: a climbing park, Jeep tours, winter ice rink, and ATV tours.
Telluride is 1 hour, 30 minutes away and has great skiing and other winter sports. High quality entertainment (plays, festivals, etc.) and the Opera House Stage are always active. Take a free Gondola ride to the top of a mountain, explore the ghost towns, play golf, and go mountain biking.
